How To Choose a Career That Suits You
How To Choose a Career That Suits You We are all different when it comes to picking our careers. Some realise it when theyâre just children, whereas some may only choose a career once theyâve reached adulthood. Thereâs some that will never find their perfect career and some whoâll change their career choice every few years. So how do you pick out a career that suits you? Know Your Strengths And Weaknesses Itâs important to know what your strengths and weaknesses are, especially when you are figuring out what career path is best for you. Personality tests and writing down your skills is a great way of gathering all the information youâll need and itâs a good idea to have this laid out in front of you. Your weaknesses shouldnât be something you are ashamed of. Identifying your weak spots will help you figure out what needs improvement and what roles you might not yet but ready for. Your strengths are whatâs most important as they can help to find a career youâll suit. Perhaps you can deal with complex jargon and have the confidence to do public speaking and managing upset and distraught people. Qualities like that could end up with you working at a personal injury law firm. Or perhaps you are good with being hands-on and being personable? That might equate to a social worker or psychologist. These are merely examples but it gives you an idea. Think About Your Passions Having the skills is one thing but you need to have a passion for whatever you do in life. Life is indeed too short to be unhappy so you owe it to yourself to find something that youâll enjoy doing every day. Many of us will spend the majority of our lives working, so donât do something that you will hate. What do you have a passion for? Maybe it lies with a hobby you do or perhaps youâve already discovered a passion that is a job or career that relates to it. We all have a passion for something at some point, so think about yours and whether that has the ability to formulate into a career. Seek Advice From Others Advice is great, no matter who it comes from. You should take advice with open arms and itâs yours to do with as you like. Ask friends and family members for advice on careers because there may be some who are in roles now that youâve thought about or never thought about before. Itâs always interesting to learn what those around you do for work and you may be surprised by one or two. With career advice, you can always seek advice from a local careers advisor at a job centre or simply do some research online. Dare To Dream Most importantly, itâs daring to dream that matters. No one should tell you that your dreams arenât achievable but they do. We often tell one another that perhaps we should be more realistic or think about an alternative. However, dreaming big means that the passion and imagination are there. You just have to put it to practice and work hard to achieve it. Whatever the dream role or career for you is, donât be ashamed of noting it down mentally in your head. It might seem unattainable now but you never know what could pan out in the future.
